San José de Cusmapa
San José de Cusmapa is a municipality with Indigenous roots, as its population is a descendant of the People Chorotega. The name Cusmapa means “Place of High Mountains” that is why it is called the balcony of the Segovia.
This municipality has a natural scenic beauty, the magic of this place is awesome, pine trees with soul, nature living, amazing scenery, is a green town that is in a privileged position for adventure tourism and hiking, has a natural viewpoint from where you can appreciate the volcanic chain of Nicaragua in particular the volcanoes San Cristóbal, The Casitas and The Momotombo, and by night the glare of the lights of some cities and towns of the west, this natural viewpoint is so attractive that the locals formed chairs in its stones where there is a wonderful viewpoint, its population is already aware of the great beautiful land they have there and they take advantage intelligently of their resources, while respecting the balance that Mother Earth should have, by returning a little of what they received.
This municipality is characterized by its handicrafts of pine needle, which they take advantage of the resource from pines and they transform it into different products.
If adventure and trek is what we are talking about, this municipality has two amazing Geo-sites you must visit, Stone Orocuina is located in the community of San José de Cusmapa, is on a small rocky ledge overlooking the small valley of Apante. There can be seen huge agglomerates blocks of aspect solid and cuts of the road where it rises rock of dark color.
Other Geo-site of geomorphology that should be seen in the tour is the Aserrío Cave, where there are small excavated caverns product of fluvial erosion of a gully that cuts the road, this allows a good view of the geology in this area, to the inside of the gorge on the lower part of the same arise volcanic rock of dark gray color and light color in huge blocks, which are observed very broken.

San José de Cusmapa
The co-Op Father Maria Fabreto, is composed of 34 women from the village and nearby communities who are working the art of pine, they in turn give jobs to young people who gather in the pine forests the raw material that is fall.
The name of the cooperative is to honor an Italian priest who lived in the area, the work of this priest was to help the children, and those who need it.
One of the artisans says that at the beginning to learn how to work the pine it was difficult, and that thanks to the practice and the accompaniment of her partners she has improved to the point that many of her products, have a variety of color and style, for those who visit, have a diversity of products to choose from.
